PRAGUE, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- At a command meeting on Tuesday, Czech President Milos Zeman, who is the supreme commander of Czech armed forces, called on the Czech military to buy drones for monitoring and later combat operations.
Zeman has repeatedly recommended that Czech military to buy drones, saying the army should not hesitate with the acquisitions of the unmanned aircraft.
He said a contemporary military without drones will not be adequate in future, just like what was not adequate for a military without tanks in the past.
Zeman said the Czech military should buy surveillance drones at first, and then combat drones after mastering this technology.
At the meeting, Zeman said he fully supports the effort to gradually increase the defence spending to 2 percent of GDP, which the Czech Republic promised to do at its NATO entry.
He said the military should consider its long-term investment strategy.
Czech pledged that at least 20 percent of the defence spending would go to investment.
