Tokyo shares close lower on weak U.S. stocks ahead of OPEC meeting

TOKYO, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares edged down Tuesday on weak U.S. stocks overnight as market awaits the outcome of a key meeting of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) on planned reduction of oil output.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 49.85 points, or 0.27 percent, from Monday at 18,307.04.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 1.01 points, or 0.07 percent, lower at 1,468.57.

Decliners were led by iron and steel, insurance and securities issues.

The day's turnover was around 2,308.0 billion yen (20.62 billion U.S. dollars).
