KHARTOUM, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Unidentified gunmen have kidnapped three workers of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Sudan's West Darfur State, a local government spokesman said on Monday.
An armed group on Sunday intercepted a UNHCR team in Geneina, the capital of West Darfur State, and kidnapped three workers, Abdalla Mustafa Jar El-Nabi, West Darfur State's information minister, told Xinhua over the phone.
The workers -- one Sudanese and two foreigners -- were taken on a four-wheel drive vehicle to an unknown destination, he added.
He further noted that security measures were tightened to identify the kidnappers and determine the whereabouts of the hostages.
Sunday's incident is the latest in a series of abductions of UN humanitarian workers and peacekeepers in Darfur by armed groups and bandits, usually for ransom.
The Sudanese government says it refuses to pay any ransom to kidnappers.
