Five killed in Sri Lanka train-car crash

COLOMBO, No. 27 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed after a train crashed into a car in Sri Lanka's southern town of Wadduwa on Sunday.

The police said that the train, which was travelling from the southern town of Galle to Colombo, crashed into the car at an unprotected railway crossing.

Sri Lanka has a history of accidents at railway crossings. Last month four people were injured when a train crashed into a van in Puttalam in the north western part.

In July four people were injured when a train engine collided with a train near the town of Meerigama.

In May two people were killed after being hit by a train near a railway station in Colombo.
