NEW DELHI, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Seven people including two women were charred to death in a devastating fire inside a factory in northern Indian state of Haryana, officials said Saturday.
The fire broke out on Friday in a spinning mill at Kurar village in Panipat district of Haryana, about 85 km north of New Delhi.
"Seven persons were killed and three others suffered burn injuries in a major fire inside a spinning mill in Kurar village," an official at Panipat said.
According to officials, 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames and contain them from spreading in the adjacent area.
The cause of fire is said to an electrical short circuit.
Locals said the bales of cotton lying inside the factory, besides chemicals and petroleum products stocked there intensified the flames.
Reports said 32 people were in the factory at the time of the incident.
Chances of fire in Indian villages and cites are usually high as people usually ignore safety standards vis-a-vis fire and store fuel and combustible materials in a haphazard manner.
