WARSAW, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski on Friday said economic relations between Poland and Iraq would hopefully develop again once the so-called Islamic State(IS) is defeated.

He made the statement after meeting his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Jaafari here.

Iraq has long had an important place in Polish foreign policy and security policy, Waszczykowski pointed out after the meeting, saying Poland has belonged to various coalitions which "are trying to help Iraq introduce peace in Iraq itself as well as in its surroundings."

"We hope that soon after the defeat of the Islamic State, peace achieved in Iraq will also lead to increased economic cooperation," the Polish foreign minister said, adding that the situation in Iraq affects not only the Middle East region, but also Europe.

Al-Jaafari said war and terrorism goes far beyond the world of Islam and the Middle East region, and no one can feel perfectly safe. "No country is free from this threat, without exception," he added.

He said one of the reasons for his visit abroad was seeking for further international aid as far as counteracting IS is concerned.

During Al-Jaafari's visit to Warsaw, both ministers signed a memorandum on foreign ministry cooperation.

Poland is a part of the international coalition against IS, which includes around 60 countries.
