VIENTIANE, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Nguyen Phu Trong, visiting general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, said on Friday that Vietnam will continue to work with Laos to further nurture the time-honoured special relations between the two neighbors.

Nguyen Phu Trong made the remarks in his speech delivered at the National University of Laos during his three-day visit to Laos at the invitation of his Lao counterpart Bounnhang Vorachit from Thursday.

Trong told members of the younger audience about the need to nurture the special relationship, saying it would determine the achievements and triumphs of each country.

He described the special relations, which were initiated by Vietnam's late President Ho Chi Minh, and Laos' two former presidents, as rare and pure, according to Lao state-run online newspaper Vientiane Times.

The Vietnamese communist party chief said, "The Vietnam-Laos fighting solidarity and relations have been continuously improved and elevated. It has become a principle of co-existence and growth. It has been a fundamental factor in guaranteeing the revolutionary victory of each country."

Trong said the special relations have been "an enormous driving force to guarantee the development of the two countries."

Trong also spoke highly of the important role the National University of Laos is playing in training and developing human resources for Laos and Vietnam.

Many Vietnamese nationals have been graduated from Lao language courses at the university and are now working in various organizations in Vietnam and Laos, said Trong. He presented 30 sets of computers to the university.

Secretary General of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President Bounnhang Vorachit and high-level officials from both sides also attended the meeting.
