LANZHOU, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- The 21st batch of medical specialists from northwest China's Gansu Province will depart for Madagascar Sunday, the provincial government said.

The medical team consists of 30 doctors specializing in several areas, including internal medicine, surgery, anesthesiology and acupuncture. The doctors, from medical institutions of various levels across the province, will stay in Madagascar for two years.

According to Liu Weizhong, director of the provincial health and family planning commission, the number of traditional Chinese medicine doctors has been increased to six due to increasing demand for traditional Chinese medicine abroad.

Over the past 50 years, China has sent numerous medical teams abroad to help combat Ebola, dengue fever, malaria, cholera and other epidemic diseases.

Gansu has sent over 600 doctors to Madagascar since 1975.
