Tokyo shares open higher on weaker yen

TOKYO, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares opened higher Friday, with the Nikkei index hitting a roughly 10-and-a-half-month high on the weaker yen against the U.S. dollar.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 87.97 points, or 0.48 percent, from Thursday to 18,421.38.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 8.08 points, or 0.55 percent, to 1,468.04.

Gainers were led by transportation equipment, nonferrous metal and glass and ceramic issues.
