BANGKOK, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- A bus overturn accident in central Thailand's Ayutthaya injured 16 elderly people, eight of them seriously on early Thursday, local media reported.
The accident happened at about 2 a.m. local time when a bus carrying 16 passengers overturned in Ayutthaya Province.
It was reported that most of the passengers were over 60 years old. They were hospitalized.
Police said the bus driver fell asleep, causing the bus to veer off and crash on roadside concrete blocks and overturn. Police have charged him with reckless driving, causing injuries.
Thailand has seen another multi-fatality bus crash in the same week. A bus plunged into a ravine in north Thailand, killing 18 passengers and injuring another 20 on Tuesday.
The Transport Ministry said Wednesday it intends to apply aviation-style safety practices, including strict limits on driving hours, to inter-provincial public buses.
