BUDAPEST, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- The year 2016 is expected to be a record film production year, Csaba Domotor, Hungarian state secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, told wire service MTI on Wednesday.
The official made the comments after parliament discussed a bill intended to offer enhanced educational opportunities for motion picture industry professionals.
Spending on international and domestic films in 2016 looks to reach a record high of 85 billion forints (about 292 million dollars), a number that can easily grow to 170 billion forints next year, he said.
In 2011 the number was only 33 billion forints, Domotor added.
The system of subsidies for film-making was overhauled in 2010, he said.
The National Film Foundation was established in 2011, and since then Hungarian motion pictures have won over 100 top international awards including a 2016 Oscar for best foreign language film, won by "Son of Saul" and its director, Laszlo Nemes.
Hungary is encouraging its motion picture industry to portray issues of key significance in processing its history which has also resulted in growing audiences in the movie theaters, Domotor said.
Hungary has been a motion picture producer for the past 120 years, Domotor said, which obliges us to treat the industry as part of our national wealth. (1 U.S. dollar = 291.13 Hungarian forints)
