Source: Xinhua   2016-11-23 04:11:01

TEHRAN, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said Tuesday that the United States neither intends nor can uproot Islamic States (IS) militants in the region, Tehran Times daily reported.

Khamenei made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Slovenian President Borut Pahor.

The U.S. anti-IS campaign has been a failure, he said, adding that "they act in such a way that this problem would remain unresolved in Iraq or Syria."

The Iranian top leader also referred to numerous potentialities of expansion of cooperation between Iran and Slovenia, expressing hope that the mutual talks would lead to closer ties in the future.

The Slovenian president, for his part, said he had held very good talks with senior Iranian officials and expressed his country's keenness to deepen relations with Iran in all fields.

Pahor arrived at the capital Tehran on Monday for a formal visit heading a trade delegation.
