MAPUTO, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Provincial health authorities in Tete province, Mozambique, said the death toll from the fuel tanker explosion last Thursday has risen to 80 and might continue to rise.

Veronica de Deus from the provincial hospital said that many patients were admitted with burns between 50 and 80 percent deep the body surface, that is the reason why the number of patients at critical conditions has also risen from 30 to 35 despite the doubled efforts by the medical experts to bring it under control.

"The attention continues doubling, medical teams continue growing, the resources are all there and all the care is being put in place in order to minimize the number of deaths. The medical support we had from the capital Maputo will be here until we have our last case closed," said De Deus.

A team of psychologists is working with the families of the victims to help them get out of the situation.

In the scene, there are 3 commissions created by the government. The first is the commission of solidarity which channels all the support coming from all over the country to the victims, the second is the commission of identification which identifies all the victims, the third is inquiry commission, which investigates the causes of the explosion.

Messages of comfort and material support from different parts of the country are being channeled to Tete province.
