China has 350 mln motor vehicle drivers: ministry

Source: Xinhua   2016-11-22 20:08:37

BEIJING, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- China now has 280 million motor vehicles and 350 million licensed drivers, according to a film on safe driving issued by the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on Tuesday.

The number of drivers in China is larger than the population of the United States.

The Traffic Management Bureau of the MPS on Tuesday released the film, saying despite the surge of the numbers of vehicles and drivers, some drivers are not sticking to traffic safety and traffic regulations.

The film reconstructs a number of traffic accidents caused by five typical traffic violations, including running through red lights, speeding, driving when tired, distracted driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The film aims to educate the public about traffic violations and make the people abide by the laws, said Wang Jinbiao, deputy head of the Traffic Management Bureau of the MPS.
