Sri Lanka says no change to policy on Palestine

COLOMBO, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera on Tuesday said there was no change to the country's policy towards Palestine.

Samaraweera made the remarks in the parliament. He said Sri Lanka-Palestine relations were strong as ever.

The foreign minister recalled that Sri Lanka has supported Palestine in the international fora including the UN.

He said successive governments have backed the Palestinian cause and that policy has not changed. "Sri Lanka's principled support for Palestine remains," he stressed.

The foreign minister also said Sri Lanka feels the issue between Palestine and Israel should be resolved through negotiations.
