BELGRADE, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Hungary predicts great progress in Serbian economic growth and wants to invest in branches of industry that are of mutual interest, said Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at a press conference in the Serbian city of Nis on Monday.

"In the past several years we have come up with serious accumulated financial means that we would wish to invest into Serbia," Orban explained at a joint press conference with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic.

Orban, on a two-day visit to Serbia with Hungarian ministers and business people to attend a joint government session of Serbia and Hungary, said Serbia offered important opportunities for foreign investors.

He estimated that the stability of Serbia would be of key importance for the stability of the whole central Europe.

Vucic said the main purpose of the joint government session between the two countries was to develop business relations, increase trade, and attract investors.

Speaking about developing economic relations between the two countries, he stressed the importance of infrastructure projects such as the Belgrade-Budapest railway being built in cooperation with China, as well as new highways which will connect Hungary with Bulgaria, Turkey, Macedonia, Greece and Albania.

According to Vucic, the two sides also talked about cooperation in areas of agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, and spa tourism as well as interconnection of energy sectors.

The two sides on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding between Hungary and Serbia concerning European integration, according to which Hungary will make its experts available to assist Serbia on its path to European Union accession.

Besides the joint government session, a business forum is taking place in the city of Nis where 170 Hungarian and Serbian companies are to participate.
