OSLO, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- The proportion of Iceland's young people living with their parents has been rising in recent years, Icelandic statistics agency said on Monday.
Between 2005 and 2015, the proportion of 20 to 24 year olds living with their parents rose from 41.8 percent to 56.9 percent, according to Statistics Iceland.
For 25 to 29 year olds, the proportion rose by 5.9 percentage points between 2009 and 2015, from 15.5 percent to 21.4 percent, it said.
The largest change occurred among 20 to 24 year old women, the proportion living with their parents rising from 36.7 percent in 2005 to 54.7 percent in 2015.
The proportion nevertheless remained higher for 20 to 24 year old males, or 59 percent in 2015, though the gender gap had narrowed considerably.
In 2015, Iceland has the sixth lowest proportion of 20 to 24 year olds living with their parents compared to the other European countries and the seventh lowest proportion of 25 to 29 year olds, according to the statistics agency.
