2nd LD: Strong quake damages houses in Indonesia's Bali

JAKARTA, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Dozens of houses were damaged after a strong quake jolted Bali and East Java province just before midnight Wednesday, Indonesia's disaster agency said on Thursday.

A total of 40 houses were damaged in the districts of Malang and Jember of the province, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the national disaster agency, told Xinhua.

There were no reports of casualties, the spokesman added.

The 6.2-magnitude quake was centered 127 km southeast Malang district with a depth of 69 km, according to the meteorology and geophysics agency.

The quake was not potential for a tsunami warning but was strongly felt in some towns in Bali and East Java province and triggered panic, Sutopo said.

Around 200,000 foreign holidaymakers visit Bali Island every month.

Indonesia sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone of "the Pacific Ring of Fire."
