LUANDA, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Angolan border police have arrested at least 750 citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in its latest operation to clamp down on illegal immigrants from neighboring countries, police announced in a press release on Wednesday.
The arrests were made from October 14 to November 7 this year by the border police in the province of Lunda Norte for attempted border violations, and the offenders included both men and women accompanied by children.
Angolan police said the detentions resulted from the operational strategies of the border police to protect the 490-km border with the DR Congo.
Angola expels thousands of illegal immigrants each year, mostly from neighboring countries who flock to the lucrative retail and post-war reconstruction market in Angola. Enditem
