ALGIERS, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- A Libyan official said here on Wednesday that the country plans to increase its oil output to 900,000 barrels a day.

"We have been outputting 300,000 barrels a day for a few months, and we are gradually moving to 600,000 barrels a day. Our goal is to reach 900,000," Houcine El Badawi, head of the Telecommunications Department at the Libyan state-run oil company NOC, told Xinhua, on the sidelines of the 6th International Exhibition of Oil and Gas Product and Service Providers held in Hassi Messaoud, a town in Ouargla Province, 800 km south of the capital Algiers.

Oil production in Libya suffered a setback in 2013 due to domestic unrest, but it has now rebounded after the resumption of oil exports.

Experts say with the reopening of Al-Sharara and Al-Feel oil fields located in the south of Libya, total output may eventually grow to 1.5 million barrels per day. Enditem
