YANGON, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- A total of 35 suspects involved in Oct. 9 violent attacks on three border posts in Maungtaw, Myanmar's western Rakhine state, have been arrested by the authorities, the military-run Myawaddy News reported Wednesday.
The suspects were rounded up when the government troops conducted area clearance operation in Wetpyin, Aung Mingalar and Yetwinkyun villages in Maungtaw over the weekend.
Interrogation is underway on the captured suspects, the report said.
On Monday, some 17 houses in Kykhutchaung village in Maungtaw were also torched by violent attackers.
According to earlier report, a total of 25 attackers were killed in Sunday clashes in some villages of Mayintaung, Pwintphyuchaung, Gwason, and Dargyizartaung near Maungtaw as the government troops cleared the area.
A series of fightings followed after nine policemen and five soldiers were killed in a violent attack by armed men on Oct. 9 on three border posts in Kyikanpyin of Maungtaw, Kotankauk of Rathedaung and Ngakhuya Office.
Islamic extremists were exposed as being involved in the attacks, which were supported financially by foreign terrorist organizations, the government said.
A dusk-to-dawn curfew is still being imposed on Maungtaw since Oct. 10.
