JAKARTA, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Wednesday urged investors in the construction industry to build supporting infrastructure facilities to spur development in rural areas.

"Many people tend to overlook the opportunities of building medium- and small-scale supporting infrastructure. These are the chances that are up for grabs so that we can expedite development itself," said Joko at the Indonesia Infrastructure Week 2016 held at the capital's Jakarta Convention Center.

The president said that supporting infrastructure, such as hospitality and transportation, were among the top options for private investment, while funds from the state budget would not be able to finance all development projects in Indonesia.

The Indonesian government, under Joko's leadership, has issued over a dozen of policy packages to stimulate economic growth and investment.

The policies included cutting inefficient bureaucracy to open businesses and also increasing efforts to eradicate corruption from the nation.

The Indonesia Infrastructure Week, hosted by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), kicked off on Wednesday with 600 exhibitors from 37 countries showcasing technologies for the construction and infrastructure sector.

The conference seeks to discuss important issues on the government agenda for infrastructure, including the latest innovations and technologies that will drive projects in the construction industry.

The event, which will run until Friday, also will see experts from central and local government institutions sharing their experiences in the field of construction.
