MELBOURNE, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- A Victorian minister has resigned after it was revealed he used his ministerial driver to ferry his two pet dogs hundreds of kilometers.

Steve Herbert, Victoria's minister for Training and Skills, International Education and Corrections, announced on Wednesday that he would stand down from the frontbench following renewed calls for his resignation.

It was revealed in October that Herbert had repeatedly ordered the driver of his taxpayer-funded car to chauffeur his two pet dogs, Patch and Ted, from his home in Melbourne's southeast to his country house in Trentham, a 120-kilometer one-way trip.

Despite having stood by Herbert throughout the controversy, Premier Daniel Andrews on Wednesday accepted the resignation after Herbert refused to reveal how many times his dogs had travelled at taxpayer expense.
