TOKYO, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares closed mixed on Tuesday in cautious trade with investors awaiting results from the U.S. presidential election.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 5.83 points, or 0.03 percent, from Monday at 17,171.38.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 0.69 points, or 0.05 percent, higher at 1,363.49.
Gainers were led by marine transportation, and iron and steel issues, while decliners were led by textile and apparel, and pharmaceutical issues.
The day's turnover was about 1,776.6 billion yen (around 17.01 billion U.S. dollars).
