Chinese, Vietnamese youngsters join hands in environmental protection

HANOI, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- A forum on environmental protection and sustainable development among Vietnamese and Chinese young people was held Tuesday in Vietnam's northern Quang Ninh province, some 120 km east of capital Hanoi.

The forum is included in the framework of the ongoing third China-Vietnam Youth Festival which is taking place in Vietnam from Nov. 7-10.

The forum aims to provide opportunities for two countries' youths to discuss and share experience on environmental protection, Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA quoted Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, secretary of Quang Ninh provincial chapter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) as saying.

Earlier on Monday, as many as 199 Chinese representatives entered Vietnam via Quang Ninh's International Border Gate of Mong Cai, visited Ba Vang pagoda, the one with the biggest hall building in Vietnam as well as paid courtesy call on leaders of Quang Ninh province.

Also on Tuesday, more than 200 youth representatives of Vietnam and China participated in a tree planting ceremony in Vietnam's northern Lao Cai province, some 130 km north of capital Hanoi.

The planting aims to strengthen youth exchanges and encourage environmental protection, said Giang Quoc Hung, secretary of Lao Cai provincial chapter of the HCYU.

On the same day, the Vietnamese and Chinese youth delegations visited Mount Fansipan, the highest peak in Vietnam, and Ham Rong mountain in Lao Cai's tourist attraction of Sa Pa district and engaged in a musical exchange with local youths.

The third China-Vietnam Youth Festival, themed "Vietnamese and Chinese Youths Join Hands in Fostering Friendship," features various activities in Vietnam's capital city of Hanoi and the six northern provinces of Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Ninh Binh, Phu Tho and Lao Cai.
