PHNOM PENH, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- A Cambodian court on Monday sentenced opposition senator Hong Sok Hour to seven years in prison for forgery and incitement, according to a verdict.
Hong Sok Hour, 59, was caught red-handed on Aug. 15 last year in Phnom Penh City after he posted to Facebook a fake version of a border treaty signed between Cambodia and Vietnam in 1979. He was charged with falsifying a public document, using the falsified document, and inciting chaos to social security.
"After thoroughly looking into the documents and evidence, the court decides to sentence Hong Sok Hour to seven years in prison for falsifying a public document, using the falsified document, and inciting chaos to social security," said the verdict delivered by Phnom Penh Municipal Court presiding judge Ros Piseth.
Hong Sok Hour and his lawyers did not appear at the court to hear the verdict.
Last month, opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party lawmaker Um Sam An was sentenced to two and a half years in jail for posting messages on Facebook accusing the Cambodian government of using fake border map with Vietnam.
