Russia, Belarus, Serbia prepare for joint anti-terrorist exercise

BELGRADE, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- A total of 718 Russian, Belarus and Serbian army members began preparing Thursday at airports and military training grounds across Serbia for a joint multinational exercise from Nov. 7 to 9.

The exercise of 212 members of Russian airborne forces, 56 members of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus and 450 members of the Army of Serbia under the name "Slavic Brotherhood" will take place until Nov. 9, the Serbian defense ministry stated in a press release.

"The goal of the exercise is to advance operative capabilities for solving tactical and armed missions for conducting anti-terrorist operations in a multinational environment," the ministry stated.

Until Nov. 6, participants from Russia, Belarus and Serbia will prepare and practice for the actual exercise from Nov. 7 to 9.

"During exercises they will perform parachuting and helicopter assault, assault operations on armored vehicles, secure landing spot, march, attacking line of blockade, attack on terrorist base, scouting rebel positions using drones, artillery preparations for the attack, aviation fire support to the attack, medical evacuation, attack against abducted vehicle and destruction of explosive devices," the Serbian defense ministry said.

The exercise was first announced in August 2016 when delegations of three sides met in Belgrade, which is a regular continuation of military cooperation between Serbia and Russia.

Russia and Serbia held an exercise in 2014 in Serbia and an exercise in 2015 in Russia. Belarus joined for the first time.
