PHNOM PENH, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia currently has approximately 74,000 people living with HIV/AIDS, a senior official said Thursday.

"Of the number, some 55,000 have received antiretroviral drugs," Ieng Mouly, chairman of the National AIDS Authority, said at a seminar here.

Meanwhile, he appealed to HIV/AIDS patients, who have not yet got antiretroviral drugs, to consult with doctors in order to receive healthcare services and drugs.

The Southeast Asian country has seen a success in reducing HIV infection rate in nearly two decades.

According to the National AIDS Authority, HIV carrier rate among Cambodian adults, aged between 15 and 49 years, was 0.6 percent in 2015, down from 2.5 percent in 1998.
