Israeli troops kill Palestinian in car-ramming attack in West Bank

Source: Xinhua   2016-10-31 00:06:20

JERUSALEM, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Israeli forces said on Sunday that they killed a Palestinian who rammed his vehicle against two West Bank Border Police officers, injuring both.

The attack occurred by Beit Ummar, a town northwest of the city of Hebron.

A police statement said a Palestinian vehicle hit paramilitary Border Police troops, injuring two of them, after which the troops shot and killed the driver.

The incident comes during a year full of violence, which claimed the lives of at least 230 Palestinians and 34 Israelis since Sept. 2015.

Israel says most of the Palestinians killed were perpetrating or attempting to perpetrate stabbing, car-ramming, and shooting attacks.

Palestinians and human rights organizations say Israel is using excessive force to quell an uprising, and frequently kill Palestinians who could simply be stopped without resorting to lethal force or who were mistakenly believed to be attackers.

Israeli leaders accuse the Palestinian National Authority of "inciting" the unrest, whereas Palestinians say it is the result of 49 years of Israeli occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, home to over five million Palestinians who want to establish their state there.
