RABAT, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Morocco on Saturday "strongly condemned" an alleged Houthi missile attack targeting Saudi Arabia's holy Muslim city of Mecca, deeming it an "abject and unacceptable criminal act."
The Saudi-led coalition forces in support for the legitimacy in Yemen announced on Thursday the interception of a ballistic missile launched by Houthi militias from Saada province toward Mecca area.
The coalition said the missile was destroyed 65 km away from Mecca, causing no damage to the holiest city for Muslims.
This "criminal act violates the sacredness of the holy sites of Islam and irritates millions of Muslims around the world, and is an attempt to destabilize and undermine the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia", the Moroccan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"While reaffirming its full solidarity with the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to face whatever could undermine its sovereignty and tranquility, Morocco expresses its full readiness to support the Saudi government to counter all evil which would target Mecca," the statement said.
