PHNOM PENH, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian police has arrested a man for posting to Facebook a death threat against Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, a senior police official confirmed Saturday.
Sam Pheap, 27, was arrested at his house in southeastern Prey Veng province on Thursday, two days after he returned from Thailand, where he worked as a laborer, said Pov Chivy, deputy police chief of Prey Veng province.
"We arrested him at the order of Phnom Penh Municipal Court's deputy prosecutor Seang Sok," he told Xinhua, adding that the suspect had posted to Facebook "messages insulting and threatening to kill the prime minister" while he worked in Thailand.
According to Chivy, the man has confessed to his action.
The suspect was brought to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Saturday afternoon for questioning.
Local news service provider Fresh News quoted a court official as saying that Sam Pheap was charged with "death threat" and "provocation to commit discrimination" under the kingdom's Penal Code.
Under the charges, the man could face a prison term of between 18 months and five years if convicted.
In March, a university student who called for a "color revolution" in a Facebook post last year was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
