MADRID, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The number of home mortgages granted to prospective buyers in Spain rose by 6.4 percent in August compared with the same month of a year earlier, according to data released on Thursday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).
A total of 20,609 home mortgages were granted to prospective buyers in August, the INE said, with an average value of 110,121 euros (about 120,000 U.S. dollars), which meant 4.8 percent more than in the same month in 2015.
The amount of capital loaned rose by 11.5 percent year-on-year to 2.269 billion euros, while on a month-to-month basis, the amount of capital loaned rose by 5 percent, when home mortgages rose by 10.2 percent.
Spain's southern region of Andalusia registered the highest number of home mortgages in August with 3,842, followed by the northeastern region of Catalonia and the central Madrid with 3,496 and 3,148 respectively. (1 euro = 1.09 U.S. dollars)
