UAE edges up in ease of doing business: World Bank

Source: Xinhua   2016-10-27 03:32:06

DUBAI, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Gulf state United Arab Emirates (UAE) increased its stance in the World Bank's ease of doing business ranking and entered the global top 30 for the first time, Abu Dhabi daily The National reported on Wednesday.

The UAE, a major oil supplier and the most diversified economy in the Gulf Arab region, was ranked as the 26th easiest country in the world for doing business, the report said.

The country, with 10.5 million inhabitants, climbed up from 34th place in 2015, "putting it ahead of countries including France and Japan," it said.

The World Bank said the UAE was one of the top 10 most improved business environments over the past 12 months.

The protection of minority investors, after new corporate governance rules were enacted in May this year by the UAE's Securities and Commodities Authority, was mentioned in particular by the World Bank.

The UAE remained the easiest place to do business in the Arab Middle East, with the Kingdom of Bahrain ranking at 63rd, followed by Oman's 66th.

The World Bank ranked New Zealand as the best country for ease of doing business. The Pacific nation was followed by Singapore and Denmark.
