Niger, Algeria discuss counter-terrorism cooperation

ALGIERS, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Nigerien Prime Minister Brigi Rafini said here Wednesday that his country seeks to draw on Algeria's counter-terrorism experience.

Rafini said Algeria has a long experience in the field of counter-terrorism, adding that his visit to Algiers aims at sharing with Algerian officials major issues of common interest, including the security issue.

Rafini on Wednesday kicked off a two-day working visit to Algeria at the invitation of his Algerian counterpart, Abdelmalek Sellal.

The visit of Rafini is "an opportunity for the two nations to assess bilateral cooperation and define ways and means to deepen it," said a statement from Rafini's office.

Sellal and Rafini will discuss regional and sub-regional issues of common interest, including ways to coordinate efforts as to face the security challenges, said the statement, referring to the terrorist threat prevailing in the Sahel region.

A series of agreements and memorandums of understanding on higher education, vocational training and justice are due to be signed, added the statement.
