Foot-and-mouth disease among cattle spotted in Vietnam's Central Highlands

HO CHI MINH CITY, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Foot-and-mouth disease among cattle has broken out in Vietnam's central highlands Dak Lak province, the provincial Animal Health Bureau said Wednesday.

To date, 245 buffalos, cows and bulls in Dak Lak have suffered from foot-and-mouth disease. In Buon Don District alone, 119 buffalos, cows and bulls have been infected with the disease.

Foot-and-mouth disease is an infectious and sometimes fatal vital disease that affects cloven-hoofed animals. The virus causes a high fever for approximately two to six days, followed by blisters inside the mouth and on the feet that may rupture and cause lameness.
