SINGAPORE, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has awarded 8.4 million Singapore dollars (6 million U.S. dollars) in grants to eight research projects to develop smart and sustainable building technology, announced BCA Wednesday.

Through the first Grant Call, the research community and the industry will collaborate to develop solutions in support of the BCA's efforts in achieving a greener, smarter and healthier built environment in Singapore, said the authority.

BCA added the Grant Call was introduced to encourage public-private collaborations, and it complements Singapore's Smart Nation initiatives and supports the BCA's third Green Building Masterplan.

BCA Chief Executive Officer John Keung said this batch of research projects is another step towards realising Singapore's green building vision, and the research community and the industry are growing closer together in their collaboration.

"With this Grant Call, BCA can facilitate the two groups in working together that not only benefit themselves but for the good of our environment, mitigating the effects of climate change," added Keung.
