ISLAMABAD, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan army said Wednesday that at least five civilians were injured in a latest Indian cross Line of Control (LoC) firing.

"Five civilians were injured due to unprovoked firing by the Indians at Harpal and Chuprar sectors on working boundary since Tuesday night," the army's Inter-Service Public Relation (ISPR) said in a statement.

"Pakistan Rangers (paramilitary forces) are befittingly responding to Indian firing," the ISPR added.

On Tuesday, Pakistan summoned an Indian diplomat over the recent cross-border attack that had killed two civilians including a minor baby, officials said.

The Pakistan army said Monday that the two civilians were killed and seven civilians injured in the late Sunday India firing along the working boundary.

Tensions between the bitter neighbors have escalated along the LoC in the disputed Kashmir region and the working boundary since suspected militants attacked an army camp in the Indian-controlled Kashmir on Sept. 18.

The Indian military blamed the Pakistan-based "Jaish-e-Mohammad" group for the attack and also pointed fingers at Pakistan. Islamabad rejected the charges and suggested an independent investigation.

Pakistan and India had declared ceasefire in 2003 that had silenced their guns. However, firing exchanges take place intermittently and the cross-LoC firing and shelling has increased in recent days.
