TUNIS, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia is seeking to build a "Knowledge Society" by 2020 that can help the country take advantage of all kinds of resources for a better integration into the global development, the Tunisian prime minister said on Tuesday.
Youssef Chahed made the comments at the opening ceremony of the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) 2016 in Hammamet, Tunisia.
The Information Communications Technology (ICT) is the key to building a "Knowledge Society," Chahed said.
He pointed out that his country would set up a broadband database, offer access to e-administration online to the public, and improve the digital service like education and healthcare, to make Tunisia a regional ICT hub.
More than 1,000 figures from about 100 countries are taking part in this year's WTSA, which is held by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) every four years.
The WTSA will see discussions among experts and decision-makers to define the ITU Telecommunications Standardization Sector's strategic plans for the next four years.
Zhao Houlin, secretary-general of ITU, noted that the standardization of 5G technology would be one of the priorities of his organization, a UN specialized agency for ICT, to make a reliable and affordable access to telecommunications service for the whole world.
Zhao stressed ITU encourages the developed countries to transfer the technologies to the developing countries, so that more people can enjoy the convenience from the ICT.
