Tanzania, Morocco sign over 20 investment, development deals

DAR ES SALAAM, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania and Morocco have signed more than 20 agreements in sectors ranging from economy to science and technology aimed at fostering bilateral relationship and investment development between the two countries.

The agreements, signed on Monday, focus on tourism, agriculture, gas, minerals, insurance, trade and business, banking and loans, health, railway and manufacturing, and marine fishery.

The signing of the agreements by respective ministers were witnessed by the visiting King Mohammed VI of Morocco and Tanzanian President John Magufuli at the east African nation's State House in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam.

President Magufuli said the agreements laid the foundations for a new continental cooperation.

"The royal tour marks the beginning of a new era in relations between Morocco and Tanzania highlighting shared commitment to contribute to the emergence of a new united and strong Africa," said Magufuli.

President Magufuli said Tanzania and Morocco are eager to bolster their cooperation and partnership for the benefit of their people.

He underlined the importance of working together as one, exchanging expertise and experiences towards further development and progress.

Magufuli said King Mohammed VI has agreed to build a large mosque in Dar es Salaam and a large football ground in the political capital Dodoma that will cost between 80 million U.S. dollars and 100 million U.S. dollars.

Magufuli assured Moroccan business community that Tanzania is safe and the doors of investment are wide open.

Moroccan Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Salahddine Mezouar, said his country adopts a win-win approach underpinned by solidarity in its relations with Tanzania and other countries.

He said the King's current tour of the continent came as another opportunity to foster development and establish win-win partnerships.
