ISLAMABAD, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan on Tuesday summoned an Indian diplomat over the recent cross Line of Control (LoC) attack that had killed two civilians including a baby, officials here said.
The Pakistan army said Monday that two civilians were killed and seven civilians injured in the late Sunday India firing along the working boundary, which divides the two countries in Pakistan's Punjab Province.
Also on Tuesday, the army said the Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing on the LoC and working boundary.
"The Indian Deputy High Commissioner was summoned and a strong protest was lodged against the unprovoked ceasefire violations on 23-24 October 2016, by the Indian occupation forces at the Working Boundary in Phuklian and Chaprar Sectors, which resulted in martyrdom of two civilians including one and a half years old innocent baby girl," the Foreign Ministry said.
"It was conveyed to the Indian side that it should investigate the incident and share the findings with Pakistan, instruct its troops to respect the Ceasefire in letter and spirit, refrain from intentionally targeting the villages and maintain peace on the Working Boundary," a Foreign Ministry statement said.
The latest incident happened as escalation of tension along the LoC, which divides the nuclear neighbors in the disputed Kashmir, has been seen since militants attacked an army center in Indian-controlled Kashmir on Sept. 18, killing 19 soldiers.
The Indian military blamed the Pakistan-based "Jaish-e-Mohammad" group for the attack and also pointed fingers at Pakistan. Islamabad rejected the charges and called for independent investigation.
Pakistan and India had declared ceasefire in 2003 that had silenced the guns. However, exchanges of firings did take place from time to time and the cross-LoC firings and shellings have increased in recent days.
