YANGON, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has lifted a red-code cyclone alert for the Ayeyawaddy delta and southern part of Rakhine coast as the storm curved northwest to Bangladesh, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology said.

However, the weather bureau said in a statement on Monday night that severe weather including heavy rainfall, flash flooding and landslide is still likely in the areas, alerting people living in the coastal areas and near rivers to take precaution.

The tropical depression curved toward Bangladesh Monday night and is now centered at 160 miles north-northwest of the Coco Island and about 180 miles west-southwest of Yangon, said the statement.

The deep tropical depression can quickly intensify into a cyclonic storm within 24 hours and can move in a north-northwest direction from western Myanmar to eastern India, it added.
