Eurozone gov't deficit ratio falls in Q2

BRUSSELS, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- The seasonally-adjusted general government deficit to gross domestic product (GDP) ratio stood at 1.5 percent in the second quarter in 19-country eurozone, down from the previous quarter, official data showed Monday.

The reading was 1.6 percent in the first three months, said Eurostat, the statistic office of the European Union (EU), adding that the wider 28-country EU recorded a ratio of 1.8 percent between April and June, as well lower than the 1.9 percent in the previous quarter.

Data showed that in the second quarter, total government revenue in the single currency bloc amounted to 46.4 percent of GDP, a slight increase compared with 46.3 percent in the first quarter, while total government expenditure stood at 47.9 percent of GDP, stable compared to the previous quarter.

As to the EU, total government revenue was 44.9 percent of GDP in the second quarter, compared with 44.8 percent in the first quarter. Total government expenditure was 46.7 percent of GDP, compared with 46.6 percent in the previous quarter, said Eurostat.
