S. Africa stocks close higher on Monday

JOHANNESBURG, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) all share rose 0.1 percent to 51,683.39 points on Monday, with gains in financial, industrial and other sectors just managing to offset a 4.43-percent loss in gold miners and 1.61-percent drop in commodity shares.

Industrial stocks and the banking sector outperformed, with the latter building on last week's 3-percent gains ahead of the mid-term budget.

The rand at 5:00 p.m. local time (CAT) was trading at R13.93 to the U.S. dollar, R16.96 to the British pound and R15.16 to the euro.

Gold had declined 0.37 percent to 1262.15 dollars an ounce. Enditem
