OSLO, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- In the past five years, 45 of the total 158 murder victims in Norway have been in a relationship with the murderer, newspaper Aftenposted reported on Monday.

According to statistics from the National Criminal Investigation Service, commonly known as Kripos, there have been 197 partner murders in the last 25 years in Norway.

"Women are more exposed to violence, especially when they have said that they were ending the relationship," Ragnhild Bjornebekk, professor and former violence researcher at the National Police University College in Oslo, said.

"The police throughout the country is now using a new analysis tool in order to find out who experiences violence by partners and who is more at risk after a breakup," she said.

According to Aftenposten, there are about 1.32 million firearms among Norwegian civilians. This ranks the country of 5.2 million people as number 11 in the world in terms of average weapons ownership rate. The United States takes the first place, followed by Yemen and Switzerland.
