XI'AN, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were injured after an explosion in a building in Fugu County in northwest China's Shaanxi Province on Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The explosion in a steel house across from a hospital in Xinmin township, shortly after 2:00 p.m, hurt several people and damaged many nearby buildings, according to the county government. By 5:30 p.m., six people had been sent to hospital for treatment.
More than 70 firefighters were sent to site where they found several people trapped, according to the provincial fire control brigade.
The explosion "might be related to unlicensed storage of explosives," local residents told the local Huashang Newspaper.
Rescue work is underway.
