TOKYO, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Monday as a less than stellar performance at the end of last week on the Wall Street set a cautious market mood with investors awaiting fresh cues before assuming bolder positions.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 6.22 points, or 0.04 percent, from Friday to 17,178.37.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged down 1.76 points, or 0.13 percent, to 1,363.53.
Mining and miscellaneous product, and iron and steel-related issues comprised notable issues that lost ground early on.
