HAIKOU, China, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan's rider Ruslan Tleubayev won the second stage of 2016 Tour of Hainan here on Sunday, while his teammate Alexey Lutsenko got a close finish behind him with the same time of 5:33:26.
Made up of a few high--speed sections, the run is the longest of this year's event so far, but the tough race and hot weather in Hainan did not make the race any difference. The peloton successfully caught 7-man breakaway by the end of the race, that make Tleubayev lead another bunch sprint today.
Though becoming the rider winning the photo finish of the second stage, Tleubayev still trails Rafael Andriato from Wilier Triestina - Southeast at the total time to fail putting yellow jersey on.
Relying on the outstanding performance in intermediate sprints and the finish, Alexey Lutsenko was award the green jersey that represents the best sprinter, that Zhao Jingbiao from Wisdom - Hengxiang Cycling Team still keeps polka - dot jersey as the best climber.
Tleubayev said, "I am so glad to win the championship on this stage. Though failing to put the yellow jersey on, there is still chance for me if I could win the race tomorrow."
The second stage stretched from Waning to Haikou, covering a total distance of 230.2 kilometers, and the next stage will be from Haikou to Chengmai with a competitive distance of 209.2 kilometres.
