BRUSSELS, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Thursday welcomed the temporary ceasefire in Aleppo, stressing that "a real solution" is needed.
Stoltenberg made the remarks at a press conference following a meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko at NATO headquarters.
They discussed the situation in Ukraine and how NATO can continue to provide support to Ukraine.
The NATO chief reiterated that "NATO's support for Ukraine is unwavering" while expressed "concern about Russia's continued destabilization of eastern Ukraine."
"We also discussed the very serious situation in Syria," said Stoltenberg, adding "I welcome the temporary ceasefire in Aleppo but this does not go nearly far enough."
Russia announced on Thursday to extend the humanitarian truce in Syria's Aleppo by 24 hours.
The move came as an order of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and it was supported by the leadership of Syria, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.
