LONDON, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Britain will make a substantial investment in a program that will help the Ministry of Defence (MOD) to better cope with cyber threats, Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said in a statement on Thursday.

The investment will support the new Cyber Vulnerability Investigations (CVI) program, which is aimed at helping the MOD better understand cyber risks, according to the statement released by MOD.

It will also help the MOD ensure that resilience to cyber-attack is built-in when buying equipment in the future.

"Cyber-attack is one of the greatest challenges to our security. It's crucial we use our increasing defence budget to stay ahead and investing in this program will help us protect against these threats," said Fallon in the statement.

In April, the government has announced the 40-million-pound(49.05 million U.S. dollars) Cyber Security Operations Center, and this new program is expected to complement the work of the center, according to the MOD. Enditem
