SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Four male suspects were still at large, after four students were shot outside two San Francisco high schools on Tuesday, local police said on Wednesday.
In a message posted on Twitter two hour after the shooting, San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) said it was a targeted incident.
A female student was in critical condition with injuries to her upper torso, and a fourth victim walked into SFPD's Bayview Station with non-life-threatening injuries.
The June Jordan School for Equity and City Arts and Technology High School share a campus. The incident took place at the shared parking lot of the two schools in the Excelsior District, one of the city's most ethnically diverse districts.
Noting that four male suspects were seen running away from the scene, officials acknowledged that the female teenager appeared to be the target and the three others were bystanders.
SFPD said the June Jordan School will resume Wednesday and counseling will be available for students.
